 THE PROJECT

THE HARD TRUTH

88%

OF WOMEN IN AFGHANISTAN ARE ILLITERATE

38%

OF CHILDREN DO NOT HAVE ACCESS TO SCHOOLS IN AFGHANISTAN

50%

OF SCHOOLS THERE DO NOT HAVE NECESSITIES SUCH AS TEACHING MATERIALS AND LABORATORIES

Maryam, Samira, and Sara's family is originally from Afghanistan. As first generation Americans, they constantly hear the stories of lack of resources in the schools. Their mother's stories about the lack of resources in her school inspired Maryam, Sarah, and Sara to help prevent other girls from going through similar or worse experiences. This inspiration lead to the development of this project.

Our names are Maryam Abbasi, Sara Abbasi, and Samira Abbasi. We are teenage girls from the Potomac School in McLean, Virginia, and members of the Learnserve International Fellowship Program. We have established GirlsConnect with a mission of donating desktop computers to all-girls schools around the world. Through our donations, we strive to boost the economies of the countries we work in and connect school-aged girls to a modern education.

- Raised $4,000 for 8 new computers for Maryam High School in Kabul, Afghanistan

- Raised funds for computers and toiletries for Education For All in the Atlas Mountains of Morocco
